Help provide secondary school supplies for local children this September
Hackney Youth Parliament is asking residents to support its Pack to School Appeal, an initiative providing brand new school equipment to Hackney children starting secondary school in September.
Residents can donate by buying an item from the appeal list before 31 July. Those who prefer to shop locally can buy items and drop them off at the Forest Road Youth Hub at 29 Forest Rd, London E8 3BY.
Each school pack will include essentials such as a new rucksack, geometry set, pens and a scientific calculator. Hackney Youth Parliament have also highlighted extra items that can help students feel more confident and prepared for the new school year.
People who would like to support the appeal can visit the Young Hackney page for more information about the campaign, the items needed and suggestions on where to buy them.
“It is our mission to make starting secondary school as easy as possible for students moving from Year 6 into Year 7. Around 64% of children in Hackney live in low-income households, facing financial pressures when preparing for the new school year. This will be our fourth year running the Pack To School Appeal, and we’re proud of the difference this campaign has made. Thanks to the generosity of residents, we have helped hundreds of young people feel prepared, confident, and ready to learn.
As we launch this year’s appeal, we’re asking the community to help us reach even more young people across the borough and give them a positive start to secondary school.” - Hackney Youth Parliament
