Winter Warmer

winterwarmer156

Food, live cabaret, and lots of advice on keeping warm, healthy and happy over the coming colder months, is the focus of this year’s Winter Warmer showcase. The event takes place in the Assembly Rooms at the Hackney Town Hall in Reading Lane on Tuesday 27 November from 11am-3pm.

The free, hugely popular Council event, is an opportunity for Council tenants and leaseholders aged over 55 to mingle with neighbours, and find out about services and activities aimed at them in Hackney.

Here’s what attendees can expect:

  • An exclusive one-off Posh Club pop-up with food and live entertainment.

  • An internet cafe, to which residents can bring their tablets or smartphones and talk to our team about getting better use from their devices. We can help them sign up to the council’s online services as well as chat to them about what other apps they can access to make their daily lives easier, including scanning old family photos and joining Facebook groups to make new friends.

  • An opportunity to have their say on council services and to engage with areas important to them, such as the Repairs Outreach Services, which provides home-based help to vulnerable residents.

  • A platform to chat to council officers and others about health, community safety, and wellbeing issues, and find out what support and services are open to them.

  • A performance of ‘Cindy Rella’, by Theatre Exchange, which is a modern-day, Hackney-as-now panto, highlighting that age is no barrier to the search for love.

  • Parallel Radio, the presenter of which will be chatting to residents about their lives and engaging with people to find out what they think about Hackney as a place in which to grow old. Residents’ views and feedback could help inform the council’s future services and strategy for older people.

  • Free massage.
