Van Driver Gets Heavy Fine

Anthony Cook (47) was fined at total of £3,849.75 for exceeding the permitted weights allowed on his goods vehicle at Thames Magistrates Court on 10 February 2010.

Hackney Trading Standards along with Metropolitan Police Force, Road Traffic Division carried out Road Safety and weight inspections of goods vehicles entering the London Borough of Hackney on 24 July 2009. Road Traffic police noticed a Luton Bodied goods vehicle being driven in an unsafe condition on route from Spitalfields market on a Hackney Carriageway.

The vehicle was directed by Road Traffic Police to the weighbridge station where Trading Standard Officers carried out a weight check. The results of the vehicle weigh-in confirmed excessive weight to the Luton bodied van and a prohibition notice was then issued to the owner driver, Mr Anthony Cook, of Lowry Road. Dagenham.

Cllr Alan Laing, Member of Cabinet for Neighbourhoods said: “Using an overloaded van can put other road users and pedestrians at risk as the driver may not be in full control of the vehicle. Van drivers need to look to their responsibilities for the safety of others when they’re on the roads.”
