Unlimited under 16 flume and leisure pool visits at Britannia this summer

Under 16s will get unlimited flume and leisure pool visits at the Britannia Leisure Centre this summer to celebrate its opening next week.

The time-limited offer at the brand new facility will mean that, after paying £1.35 for a pay and play card under 16s, students and U18 concessions who live in Hackney will be able to ride the 8m high flume and splash in the fun-filled leisure pool - with its water fountains, slides and drenching bucket - on as many days as they choose*.

This offer is in recognition of a challenging 16 months for young people in Hackney and is limited until 31 August 2021 to mark a ‘summer of play’ in the borough.

In line with all other indoor centres in Hackney, registered under 18s and over 60s will also be able to swim for free in the main pool and teaching pool on a permanent basis.

The new Britannia Leisure Centre will open to the public on Wednesday 30 June, marking the completion of the first part of the biggest public sector investment in the area in a generation - delivering the brand new leisure centre, a new secondary school and hundreds of new homes, including 81 genuinely affordable homes for social rent and shared ownership.

The centre, developed in consultation with local people, boasts rooftop football and tennis courts with panoramic views of London, two first-class swimming pools, a leisure pool with jets, a splash pad and additional leisure water areas, stunning fitness studios and a cafe and toilets that also serve Shoreditch Park.

It’s also one of Hackney’s most inclusive public buildings, with accessible changing areas (including two Changing Places), pool pods for wheelchair users, a pool with sensory and interactive light features, and individual changing rooms.

The centre will be operated by Better, the charitable social enterprise that runs all Council leisure centres, with affordable prices for local people and discounted memberships for those on low incomes.

Cllr Chris Kennedy, Cabinet Member for Health, Adult Social Care and Leisure
I’m so proud to be opening the new Britannia Leisure Centre next week. We want the whole community to get involved!

The centre has so much to offer - including its incredible flume and leisure pool - so we’re delighted to be able to give under 16s unlimited use of these amazing facilities over the summer.

Cllr Caroline Woodley, Cabinet Member for Families, Early Years, Parks and Play
With so much going on this summer, the opening of the new and inclusive facilities at Britannia and the refurbishment of a number of our parks play facilities, we want to see everyone - regardless of age or ability - get involved in a summer of play. I can’t wait to see everyone at the new Britannia enjoying this amazing offer.
Cllr Caroline Woodley, Cabinet Member for Families, Early Years, Parks and Play

Under 16s, students or U18s concessions who live in Hackney can download the Better UK App from the App Store or Play Store and get their pay and play card.
