Top-rated Hackney parks reach 29 green flags

Twenty-nine Hackney parks are now rated among the best in the UK in the latest of Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Awards.

Recognising high standards of maintenance, biodiversity, community involvement and management, the Green Flag award is the international standard for well-run and accessible parks.

Abney Park - which is currently undergoing a major Heritage Lottery funded refurbishment project - is the latest of Hackney’s parks to receive the prestigious award, bringing the total to 29.

Cllr Caroline Woodley, Cabinet Member for Families, Parks and Leisure

I'm really proud that the latest Green Flag Awards recognise that in Hackney we have some of the highest quality parks in London, and that's all thanks to our dedicated staff, volunteers and park user groups who help us to keep our parks maintained to such a high standard.

We want the very best parks for our residents - many of whom don’t have green space of their own - so we’re committed to making sure they’re beautiful, biodiverse, accessible and have lots of facilities for all of our residents to enjoy.

Cllr Caroline Woodley, Cabinet Member for Families, Parks and Leisure

The Council is committed to investing in its parks and green spaces, with a £2m upgrade to Shoreditch Park completed earlier this year, Abney Park’s restoration project nearing completion, work to refurbish Charles Square and Fairchild’s Gardens about to commence and an ongoing project to refurbish new play areas in parks
