HDS16639 - Sus Day SM 800px 01

Hackney residents can pick up energy-saving tips and get advice on how to pursue a more environmentally sustainable lifestyle at Hackney’s annual Sustainability Day on Sunday 2 July.

The low waste and zero single-use plastic event takes place in Hackney Town Hall Square and welcomes over 30 organisations to show residents how they can lower their utility bills, get into cycling, reuse, repair, refill, recycle more, grow their own food, help insulate their homes and much more.

This fun-filled, family-friendly day is free to attend and will feature a range of events, activities and treats, including:

  • Advice from experts on energy-saving and sustainable living
  • Zero Waste Market (for paint and clothes)
  • Repair workshops (advice on electrical items, Dr Bike and a clothes mending station)
  • Family-friendly stalls and activities such as face painting
  • A selection of food and drinks
  • Free coffee and other hot drinks for those who bring their own mugs
  • Free fruit giveaway, plus discounted sweet and savoury pastries
Cllr Mete Coban MBE, Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Environment and Transport

Sustainability Day is a great opportunity for people to learn more about how they can contribute to an environmentally sustainable future and share ideas with us on what more can be done to defend the planet for the benefit of Hackney residents present and future. At Hackney we are committed to working hard to reduce our use of fossil fuels driving global warming, improve the sustainability of our housing, plant more trees, create more green spaces, and provide cheaper and cleaner energy for all.

Cllr Mete Coban MBE, Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Environment and Transport
