Social distancing this weekend
Council officers will be out in Broadway Market, in parks and across the borough this weekend to remind people about the ongoing importance of social distancing.
To help people keep two metres apart, pavements have been widened at seven locations across the borough, and Barnabas Road is set to close to through-traffic as part of emergency road safety measures to help people walk and cycle during the pandemic.
The Council has provided advice and social distancing posters to businesses across Hackney, and has been engaging with them to support them to trade responsibly.
Last week, it wrote to the small number of businesses in Broadway Market it had received complaints about, asking them to stop selling alcohol in open containers.
Follow-up test purchases by officers over last weekend did not result in sales of this kind and relevant businesses have put in place further social distancing measures in line with government guidance.
The Council’s social distancing advisers will be out again this weekend encouraging individuals and businesses to behave responsibly.
In the event a licensee is found to be trading in breach of licensing conditions or the licensing objectives, the Council will seek to progress enforcement action.
Following updated Government guidance this weekend, banners in parks are being updated and some facilities in parks are being reopened on a phased basis.
The Council is urging people to continue to be considerate of other people using Hackney’s parks and open spaces and keep two metres apart from others at all times.
