Up to £5k available in latest round of Council grants

A Hackney Fixer restart party

Local charities and community groups can now apply for grants of up to £5,000 from Hackney Council.

Between £1,000 and £5,000 is available from the Small Grants Fund for voluntary and community groups which can demonstrate how their projects will help improve the lives of residents by focusing on one of the following themes: promoting social inclusion, encouraging independence and developing personal resilience, or by promoting mixed communities.

Projects will need to be delivered between 1 September 2018 and 31 March 2019.

Applications for Small Grants are open until midday on Monday, 14 May. Apply online via the Hackney community grants webpage.

One group, Sustainable Hackney, benefited from £1,800 to host skill sharing workshops through their Hackney Fixers project.

James Diamond, from Hackney Fixers said: "The workshops have helped teach Hackney residents how to repair and reuse electrical items, from changing a plug to fixing an laptop. As well as helping them reduce their waste and saving them money we hope some of them will volunteer with us, helping us fix more stuff at our regular Restart Parties."

From the 2017/18 Small Grants programme, 31 groups were awarded funding totalling £137,196.

Across Hackney there are many groups that have great ideas to help make Hackney an even better place, if your organisation has an idea like this but needs some extra help then I would encourage you to apply for the Council's Small Grants Fund.
