Shoppers in Hackney will benefit from big discounts and special offers from over 60 small businesses on 7 December thanks to the launch of Hackney Council’s new Small Business Saturday business directory.

Offers range from discounted homeware, children’s toys, flowers, vinyl, website design and even life coaching.

Hackney is home to over 20,000 small businesses and the directory has been set up to promote small independent businesses in the borough and encourage both residents and visitors to discover the vast array of retailers and service providers available.

The directory is a brand new initiative by Hackney Council and forms part of its ongoing business support programme for both new and existing enterprises in the borough all of which have a key role to play in creating a more inclusive economy in the borough.

Tim Shields, Chief Executive of Hackney Council
We’re very proud of our small businesses, many of whom have served their local communities and beyond for decades.

The impact of Hackney’s small businesses cannot be underestimated – they are the drivers of our town centres and economy, the employers of our residents and provide us with vital services and products.

We want to support businesses that have chosen Hackney as their home, which is why we’re launching our Small Business Saturday online business directory and we hope this will encourage everyone to shop local.
Tim Shields, Chief Executive of Hackney Council

The directory will continue to be updated throughout the week leading up to 7 December and it can viewed here: www.investinhackney.org/smallbizsat

Businesses wanting to feature in the directory can do so by filling out this online form https://forms.gle/d2w65nqeF2ib2MHz6 by 5 December.

About Small Business Saturday:

Small Business Saturday is a not-for profit campaign that was originally founded by American Express in the U.S in 2010. The day takes place annually on the first Saturday of December but the campaign aims to have a lasting impact on small businesses all year round.

A grassroots, not-for-profit campaign, Small Business Saturday was originally founded by American Express in the U.S. in 2010.

American Express remains the principal supporter of the campaign in the UK, as part of its on-going commitment to encourage consumers to shop small.

The day itself takes place on the first Saturday in December each year, but the campaign aims to have a lasting impact on small businesses.

On Small Business Saturday, customers across the UK go out and support all types of small businesses, online, in offices and in stores.

Many small businesses take part in the day by hosting events and offering discounts.
