Shape local health and care services with the free Let’s Talk event

Residents can have their say on plans for health and care in Hackney while hearing more about local services at an event later this month.

In partnership with the Council, The City of London and a host of other partners, the City and Hackney Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) Let’s Talk event will give attendees an opportunity to drop in and share their thoughts and opinions with commissioners and service providers about how services can be shaped and improved to meet local needs.

Taking place on 26 June with doors opening from 4.30 – 8pm, the drop-in style event will showcase a selection of health and wellbeing services; from mental health and diabetes, to health checks and cancer care.

With staff on-hand throughout the afternoon, Hackney residents will be able to find out more about how designing services which are joined up across health and care, known as Integrated Commissioning, can improve outcomes for local people.

Integrated Commissioning sees staff from the CCG, councils including the City of London, doctors, nurses, social care workers and pharmacists working more closely together to share knowledge, reduce bureaucracy and reduce duplication of work while tailoring services around patients and residents. Staff are working across four key areas as part of integrated commissioning: prevention of diseases and illnesses; planned care, including cancer and outpatients; unplanned and emergency care; and children, young people and maternity. Mental health is a key priority across all areas.

As part of commissioning in a joined up way, attendees will learn more about plans for health and social care services working across eight neighbourhood areas. Each neighbourhood, which will cover around 30,000 residents, will involve GP surgeries, social care, community and mental health services working closely together to remove barriers between hospital, social and GP-led care – ensuring that people experience a better quality of care and to make the most of the resources and services available to them in their neighbourhood communities.

Neighbourhoods will focus on mental health, supporting people to live independently for longer, providing tailored support for those at the end of their lives, and helping people change unhealthy behaviours to reduce obesity, diabetes, heart and lung disease .

Other services featured at Let’s Talk include Hackney’s Stop Smoking Service, Sugar Smart – which aims raise awareness about sugar consumption, support to get active, as well as healthy eating information.

Our Let’s Talk event is part of the ongoing conversation with patients and residents about how we can ensure health and social care services meet the needs of all people that use them from all communities.

We’ve designed Let’s Talk to ensure that leaders from health and care will be available to listen and act upon the views and experiences of residents, while talking through new ways of delivering services. I would like to encourage residents from across the City and Hackney to come along at any time throughout the afternoon, have their say and find out more about local services.
