Residents get the Covid-19 vaccine at Hackney Service Centre

Almost 1,500 residents received their Covid-19 vaccines at a mass vaccination drive in Hackney Central this weekend.

The two-day event at the Hackney Service Centre was organised by the NHS and Hackney Council, with dozens of Council staff volunteering to support residents to get protected.

This event was one of many being organised to enable people to get the vaccine closer to home, with vaccination events taking place in community centres, places of worship and even on Ridley Road Market.

Helena Thomson, 24, from Victoria Park, said: “I’m really happy to get my vaccine here. Everyone is so lovely and it's been an enjoyable experience. I think it's important to get the vaccine as we need to get back to our lives.”

Isobel McConnell, 25, from Hackney Central, said: “I feel good, and I felt very excited to get my vaccine done. It's worth getting the vaccine, even if you do get the side effects, as you get that over with,or and it’s worth it more than getting really ill or making anyone else ill.”

Anthony Mccaul, 41, from London Fields, said: “I feel relieved and happy to have my vaccine. It was a really easy process. Everyone is really friendly, and it wasn’t scary at all.”

The event means that over 158,000 people in Hackney have now received at least one dose of the vaccine.

Mayor of Hackney, Philip Glanville
It’s great that even more of our Hackney residents are being protected from Covid-19 thanks to events like this. A big thank you to all of the volunteers and NHS and Council staff who helped make it happen.

Over the next few weeks we have even more vaccine pop-up clinics planned, so check our website to find out when these are coming to your area. Getting the vaccine not only helps keep you safe but keeps those around you and the wider borough safer too.

You’re able to get the Covid-19 vaccine in your community thanks to these pop-up clinics. It was great to see so many people come along to get vaccinated. If you haven't had yours yet, or it's been 8 weeks since your first dose, come along to one of these events and get vaccinated, to keep safe.
