Outdoor gym heads to Hackney

RESIDENTS will have a new way of keeping fit when an adiZone outdoor gym opens on Mabley Green.

The adiZone has been designed and developed by sportswear company adidas and boasts sporting facilities inspired by Olympic and Paralympic sports including a basketball, football and tennis area, a climbing wall, an outdoor gym and an open area for dance, aerobics and gymnastics.

It will be free to use, open all year round, and is suitable for all ages and abilities.

Work to install the adiZone is due to start this month (August) and it is scheduled for completion in the autumn.

Cllr Jonathan McShane, Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “As a host borough for the 2012 Games, we want to inspire as many residents as possible to try new sports and keep active. The adiZone will create a new space where people can meet socially and enjoy getting fit at the same time.”

Nick Craggs, Marketing Director, adidas UK & Ireland, said: “As a London 2012 sponsor, adidas believes it is vitally important that free sporting facilities are made available and accessible if we are truly going to get the nation participating in sport.”

The adiZone is part of a programme of improvements to Mabley Green being led by the Council and informed by feedback from residents. It is also part of the wider multi-million pound improvements to Hackney Marshes.
