Statement regarding a flat fire at Sara Lane Court, Hoxton

A Council spokesperson said:

“A fire broke out in a flat at Sara Lane Court, Hoxton, this morning (Friday 24 April), and the London Fire Brigade quickly intervened to extinguish it.

“We know this will have been a worrying time for our residents. We are relieved and grateful that, thanks to the swift action of the London Fire Brigade, no one was injured.

"As soon as we were aware, our teams went to the site to provide support to our residents. Our officers remain on the ground to continue to offer support. We arranged temporary accommodation for the residents of three flats (one directly affected by the fire and two that sustained water damage as a result of tackling the fire).

“Please avoid sharing unconfirmed reports from social media or other sources while we await the outcome of the London Fire Brigade’s investigation into the fire.”

Further information:

There has been some water damage to the building, including fire alarm systems and the lifts, and we are working as fast as we can to resolve remaining issues.

We expect the fire alarm to be fully operational by the end of the day, and in the meantime we have arranged for a temporary waking watch to patrol the building to ensure everyone remains safe.

Unfortunately the lifts will remain unusable this weekend while we perform the necessary urgent repairs.

If your home has been directly affected by this incident and you need urgent support please contact us by calling the repairs contact centre at 020 8356 3691.

We will update residents as soon as we can.
