Nominate your favourite new building in the Hackney Design Awards 2026

The biennial Hackney Design Awards return this year, launching on Tuesday 1st September

The Hackney Design Awards celebrate the best in new buildings and spaces across the borough. Since the awards began in 2004 there have been over 400 nominations and more than 100 winners.

From 1 September you can nominate any new buildings, retrofits, restorations, extensions, public space or landscaping projects, completed between September 2024 and August 2026. The programme is open to all and free to enter.

Nominations will be shortlisted by an independent panel of experts with judging visits taking place in October. The long-standing People’s Choice Award, launched in 2010, will give residents an opportunity to vote for their favourite project from all the shortlisted nominations. The winners will be announced in a ceremony at Hackney Town Hall in December.

Alongside the main Hackney Design Awards, there are a number of special categories, including awards for Retrofit, Climate Resilience, Heritage & Restoration and Inclusive Communities. Previous award winners include the Portico, 208 Cassland Road, the Yorkton Workshops, Taylor Court and Britannia Leisure Centre.

Councillor Alastair Binnie-Lubbock, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning and Inclusive Neighbourhoods, said:

“The Hackney Design Awards are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the quality and variety of building designs across the borough. From private homes to pocket parks, from small to large developments, there are so many well-designed buildings and public spaces in Hackney which help to make the borough such an exciting and vibrant place to live, work and play.

“This is your chance to nominate your favourite new buildings or public spaces. Let’s celebrate the best new designs from across Hackney.”
