Local Hackney businesses given cash to boost the borough’s high streets
Local Hackney businesses have been given a cash boost of up to £5k each to host events, markets or campaigns that drive footfall and spend on their local high street.
From a new Lower Clapton Road business loyalty scheme and sustainability workshops in Hackney Wick to a dive bar festival in Hackney Central, seven projects were selected from 27 applications, with the successful projects demonstrating feasibility, impact, and a track record of partnership working.
In Clapton, Palm Deli will launch a new loyalty programme that rewards repeat visits to local shops with points that can be donated to local good causes.
A new pop-up upcycled fashion market will be run by the Alterist at Netil Market, with the long-term goal of establishing a 12-month residency for independent designers in the area.
In Hackney Wick, Grow Hackney and Arbeit Studios will run a series of sustainability and circular economy workshops in Hackney Wick.
In Hackney Central, Arcane Drinks has brought together a collective of six alternative venues to run a seven-day multi-venue cultural festival spotlighting a new wave of alternative culture taking shape in Hackney.
Stoke Newington Business Association will run art workshops and Mill Co will run dance and yoga sessions to help bring people to a new coworking and studio space at Woodberry Down.
Cllr Sam Pallis, Deputy Cabinet Member for Inclusive Economy, said: “We want to do everything we can to help our local businesses thrive, which is why we’re supporting seven groups of businesses to launch events, markets and campaigns that help bring more people to their local area or high street.
“This is a key part of our economic development plan - ensuring that growth and investment benefits all of Hackney’s places and communities.”
