Joint statement to mark second anniversary of 7 October attacks

A message from Caroline Woodley, Mayor of Hackney, Cllr Peray Ahmet, Leader of Haringey Council and Cllr Barry Rawlings, Leader of Barnet Council

“As we mark two years since the terrorist attacks of 7 October in Israel, we come together in solidarity with our Jewish friends and communities. The increase in antisemitism and the traumatic events in Manchester have shown us once again the importance of uniting against hate and division in our boroughs.

“We know these events have caused deep pain for our communities, and it's why we will continue to work closely with you to protect our boroughs as places people of all faiths, ethnicities and backgrounds can be safe, feel safe, belong and thrive.

“This year, the anniversary also lands as Jewish communities celebrate Sukkot, the Jewish festival of thanksgiving. Despite recent events we hope this special time brings moments of connection with family, friends and loved ones. On behalf of our boroughs, we wish our Jewish communities Chag Sameach as they celebrate Sukkot.

“Our boroughs have a proud shared history of coming together against division and today we are one community, united in the hope of a peaceful future.”
