Hackney is no place for hate: become a Hackney Hate Crime Community Champion

Hackney Council is recruiting local residents to join a new network of Community Champions to tackle hate crime, support victims, and build a safer Hackney.

Are you passionate about your community? Do you want to see an end to hate crime?

We are creating a network of Hate Crime Community Champions to support witnesses and victims of hate crimes. You don’t need any prior experience, we will teach you everything you need to know. You just need to be friendly, supportive and passionate about helping others.

We want to ensure our Hate Crime Community Champions are representative of our diverse borough and reflect a range of ages, religions, races, sexualities and identities.

As a Hate Crime Champion you will:

  • Be provided with training to raise awareness of hate crime, how to report it and access support, for your community network

  • Take part in National Hate Crime Awareness Week and the Hackney Hate Crime Forum

  • Feed back to the council community tensions and concerns relating to hate crime

If you are interested in becoming a Community Champion, please email noplaceforhate@hackney.gov.uk and join us for our first meeting at the Town Hall on Thursday 11 December at 18:30.
