Celebrate over 70 years of Hackney’s adventure playgrounds in Hackney Museum’s new exhibition

A new display ‘Celebrating Hackney’s Adventure Playgrounds’ will open at Hackney Museum on Saturday 10 February. Created with people who made, used and worked in adventure playgrounds in Hackney, the display features personal stories, photographs and objects from from the 1950s to the present day. They provide a fascinating insight into the creation of adventure playgrounds and the ways in which they have influenced the lives of local people.

Visitors can get hands-on with ‘loose parts’ - everyday objects that you can play with and that are often found in adventure playgrounds - or contribute their own written memories of adventure playgrounds to the memory wall.

There are events throughout February, including a special launch event and family activities during the school holidays as well as a chance to contribute to a model adventure playground that will then be displayed in Hackney Museum.

Book free tickets to the launch event on Thursday 15 February via eventbrite.

The stories, photos and objects on display offer a compelling exploration into the dynamic history of adventure playgrounds in the borough and the joy they have brought to so many people in the community. The exhibition serves as a fascinating collection of memories and represents the spirit of play that has characterised Hackney for decades.
