Best ever green flag tally for Hackney’s parks
More Hackney parks than ever before have been awarded a Green Flag, the standard for the very best parks in the country.
Thirty one parks have now been recognised by Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Awards, up from 29 last year.
Recognising high standards of maintenance, biodiversity, community involvement and management, the Green Flag award is the international standard for well-run and accessible parks.
Stoke Newington Common - with its new play area - and Charles Square, which has undergone a recent transformation, were newly recognised this year.
The Council is committed to ongoing investment in its parks and green spaces, with Abney Park and Fairchild’s Garden restoration projects now complete. It will soon start refurbishing play areas at Clapton Common, Hackney Downs, Stonebridge Gardens & Well Street Common.

I’m delighted that Hackney has been awarded 31 Green Flags, the standard for the very best parks in the country.
Two more Hackney parks have this year won the award - Stoke Newington Common, with a new play area developed in collaboration with its user group, and Charles Square, which has recently undergone transformation into a beautiful tranquil space for residents to enjoy.
I couldn’t be prouder of our parks team and the work they do to make Hackney greener and healthier for everyone.
