Become a hate crime champion this National Hate Crime Awareness Week
Residents who want to play a part in fostering strong relations between Hackney’s communities are being invited to become hate crime champions, as the Council hosts a series of street stalls as part of National Hate Crime Awareness Week.
With the first recruited a year ago, the borough’s hate crime champions help and advise victims and witnesses of a hate crime or incident. There have been several members of our community who have volunteered their time, with the Council looking to recruit champions from all of Hackney’s communities.
The Council will be hosting a series of street stalls next week as part of National Hate Crime Awareness Week, where residents can find out more about becoming a hate crime champion and how they can help foster strong relations between Hackney’s communities. The events will also provide residents with more information about what constitutes hate crime and how they can report it:
The Council is also hosting its first hate crime forum next month, with representatives from Hackney’s communities invited to discuss and collaborate with the Council on best practice when sharing important messages around hate crime with different communities.
