Arrest of a former councillor

A statement on the arrest of Lee Laudat-Scott, who resigned as a councillor on Saturday 13 July.

A new Deputy Speaker will be appointed at the Council meeting on 24 July. More information will be shared about any future ward by-election in due course.

On the afternoon of Wednesday 10 July our Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) was contacted with a children safeguarding referral. On Saturday 13 July we accepted the resignation of Councillor Laudat-Scott. The Council was notified of his arrest on Wednesday 17 July. On Thursday 18 July he appeared at Thames Magistrates Court after being charged with two offences.

A spokesperson for Hackney Council

I was horrified to hear of the allegations and subsequent charges. My immediate thoughts are with the person who has reported them. I’m unable to say any more while criminal proceedings are active.
