Statement on murder in Towpath Walk

A statement from Mayor of Hackney, Zoë Garbett, and Deputy Mayor, Cllr Dylan Law, following last night’s tragic murder in Towpath Walk, Hackney:

"We are extremely shocked and saddened about the horrific murder of a boy in Hackney last night. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with everyone affected, including his family and friends, who will be grieving their loss.

"The Council is in contact with the emergency services and we will work with them to support those who have been directly affected. Specialist council teams are on hand to support those who knew the victim, students at local schools and the wider community.

"We know serious violence is extremely worrying for all the community, particularly for young people and parents with children living in the area. We are committed to working with the local community, youth organisations and schools to help keep everyone in Hackney safe."

We know serious violence is extremely worrying for all the community, particularly for young people and parents with children living in the area. We are committed to working with the local community, youth organisations and schools to help keep everyone in Hackney safe.

The Council’s youth service, Young Hackney, has sent youth workers to the area to help support children and young people in the aftermath of this incident.

The incident is being investigated by officers from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command and additional uniformed police officers are patrolling the area. The investigation remains at a very early stage and we would urge anyone with information to contact the police using the details below.
