A statement on the fire in Cazenove Road

A message to the Stamford Hill community from Caroline Woodley, Mayor of Hackney, following a fire at a property on Cazenove Road

"I am incredibly grateful to all the emergency services and volunteers from Shomrim and Hatzola for their brave response to yesterday’s fire at Cazenove Road, and thankful that there have been no serious casualties as a result.

“I was there yesterday evening with Council teams supporting the families who have been affected. We will continue to do all we can to help everyone who is unable to return immediately to their homes and to respect the privacy of families as they rebuild.

“This is a part of Hackney where synagogue and mosque sit side by side. The fire has deeply affected both Jewish and Muslim neighbours and I trust that our communities in Stamford Hill will support each other, as we always do.

“Following the horrific antisemitic attack on Jewish Londoners in Golders Green earlier this week, and the government raising the terrorist threat level as a result, I know this incident will have caused further concern at what is an extremely distressing time for our Jewish communities.

“Importantly, the London Fire Brigade has said they do not believe that the fire was started deliberately at this stage. We will continue to work alongside the police, Shomrim and the Stamford Hill community to help keep people safe.”
