Lots of fun to be had at the Dalston Children's Festival

Families will be spoilt for choice this summer at the Dalston Children’s Festival, with 27 free activities on offer.

Taking place on Saturday 25 May and Saturday 1 June, during the half term holiday, the Dalston Children’s Festival is the perfect way for Hackney’s under 12’s to be entertained for free whilst giving families the chance to discover the fun to be had in Dalston all-year-round.

With creativity and play at the heart of the festival, Dalston’s vibrant artistic and play communities will have activities on offer both indoors and out.

Some of the many highlights of the festival include:

  • Gypsy Roma singing and dancing with the Yagori dance school; learn some moves or just watch the show and to help celebrate Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month

  • Hula-hooping and circus skills with the Guinness World Record holders, Marawar’s Majorettes

  • A visit from the Hackney Play Bus, transforming Dalston Sq into a giant playground

  • Pizza making using the Dalston Eastern Curve pizza oven

  • A Drag Queen storyteller at the Hackney Pride 365 family picnic

  • And much, much more!

Cllr Guy Nicholson, Cabinet Member with responsibility for the Arts & Culture
Dalston is at the heart of culture in Hackney, so it is fantastic to see local businesses, community groups and artists working together to provide free events for families and children. This event is not to be missed, I would encourage families from across Hackney to come down to Dalston and take part in both of the festival days.

The Dalston Children’s Festival is a community-led event now in its seventh year, it is organised by the Dalston Children’s Network (DCN), a collective of organisations that have an on-going offer for children and young people in Dalston, and is supported by Hackney Council.
