Life's a ball when you foster for Hackney
A masquerade themed party was held by Hackney Council to celebrate the amazing work done by their foster carers.
Working with the foster carers’ forum, this event was the Council’s way of saying thank you for all the support, nurturing and security foster carers have provided over the years for the children in their care.
Arriving at the Grand Connaught Rooms, foster carers and special guests were treated to some fun and games before dinner and a disco. Awards were also presented to foster carers celebrating five, 10, 15 and 20 years of service.
I am so proud of our foster carers for all the incredible things they do that make a positive impact on local children.
At a time when we need more foster carers for the borough it is really important to show them how grateful we are for all that they do. It is important to us that they feel appreciated and that we provide an environment that they are happy to be a part of.
Awards were collected by 25 carers on the night, with more than 200 years of experience between them. Among them was Brenda Campbell who was first approved 24 years ago, placing her among Hackney’s long-serving foster carers.
Brenda said: “I was happy to receive this award; I have quite a few now. It is so rewarding to see the children develop, to see them move on or go on to university, it’s especially nice when they come back to see you. I have had great support over the years from my social workers, the fostering team and fellow foster carers.”
Coming into care can be a difficult experience for a child; foster carers are crucial to supporting a child or young person through the process by providing a safe and understanding environment.
All Hackney foster carers benefit from a range of support, continued access to training and competitive allowances. They are also welcomed into a community of foster carers motivated by the difference they make to foster children and the influence they have in the delivery of services.
