Help to shape Hackney
Would you like to help shape the built environment of one of the most exciting boroughs in the country?
Hackney Council is looking to appoint up to 50 professionals in architecture, urban design, development, sustainability and conservation to join its voluntary Design Review Panel.
Hackney is one of the smallest London boroughs by area but one of the most densely populated with a diverse and rich built environment. It also has a fine heritage with 29 conservation areas and 1,300 statutorily listed buildings.
The purpose of the Design Review Panel is to provide the Council and applicants with professional design and architecture advice on:
- development proposals that may significantly affect the urban design of Hackney
- major or strategic scheme planning applications
- Council frameworks and initiatives with urban design implications
- significant and strategic issues and policies
Hackney covers just seven square miles and is the third densest borough in London, but despite its limited space it continues to deliver innovative building design. The advice from the industry professionals who volunteer for Hackney's Design Review Panel helps to play a vital role in our commitment to encouraging excellence in all developments and to ensuring that buildings and public spaces throughout the borough meet our aspirations to improve the lives of everyone in Hackney.
The panel is advisory and does not have statutory decision making powers. Applicants will be evaluated on the following criteria:
- professional knowledge and experience
- professional qualifications and membership
- experience of design review
- knowledge of Hackney
Candidates must be prepared to attend between four to six evening meetings per year, with each meeting consisting of five to six panel members on a rotating basis.
The panel are scheduled to meet monthly and will have four chairs who attend on a rotating basis. If you would like to be considered for one of the chair positions please include in your application why you are a suitable candidate.
