Have your say on Hackney s housing for the next five years

HAVE your say on how housing in Hackney is built, improved and managed during the next five years.

Residents are being invited to take part in a consultation on the housing strategy to help shape how the Council meets local needs, including for new and more environmentally-friendly homes, better estates, quality private rented homes, and addressing unemployment.

Cllr Karen Alcock, Deputy Mayor of Hackney, said: “Making decent housing affordable for Hackney people is a high priority for the Council. Hackney has a responsibility not just to its tenants but to ensure everyone in the borough is decently housed, and so it is important that residents take part in this consultation.”

During the next five years, the Council is also currently seeking to:

• help reduce overcrowding by continuing to maximise the proportion of new social rented homes with three or more bedrooms

• improve Council homes to the Decent Decent Homes standard

• provide advice and support to tenants to help them to find and stay in work

The consultation runs until 8 January, 2010 – for more information, and a questionnaire, contact 020 8356 7732 email rachel.salmon@hackney.gov.uk visit www.hackney.gov.uk/housing-strategy or write to Rachel Salmon, Policy and Strategy Officer, Housing and Regeneration Team, London Borough of Hackney, 2 Hillman St, London E8 1FB
