Hackney Residents encouraged to report wildlife sightings
Hackney residents are being encouraged to report wildlife sightings online. The Hackney Wildlife Survey has just been launched by the Hackney Biodiversity Partnership to get a better understanding of the borough's wildlife.
Hackney is the greenest borough in inner London and our 56 parks and green spaces provide fantastic habitats for all sorts of species. We have some wonderful wildlife on our doorstep, if you've seen some recently, let us know about it and help us build a picture of Hackney’s wildlife.
David Mooney, London Wildlife Trust said “Hackney has some incredible wildlife. There’s Tawny Owls in Abney Park Cemetery and even Grass Snakes around Stoke Newington East Reservoir, if you’re on the look out, you’ll be amazed at what you’ll find.”
Anyone completing the survey is asked to record sightings of birds, mammals, insects and amphibians using a new online recording form. The information is being used in partnership with GiGL (Green space Information for Greater London) to build a picture of where different species live throughout Hackney. This information is available for anyone to see, and is also useful for planners making decisions on developments in Hackney.
