Hackney’s Director of Public Health is urging people to attend their second dose vaccination appointment to ensure they have maximum protection against Covid-19.

Over 78,000 residents have now had both doses of their vaccine in Hackney, as have over 32 million people across the UK.

New research by Public Health England has shown that two doses of the vaccines have been found to be highly effective against hospitalisation from the more transmissible Delta variant which is now widely circulating in the community.

Dr Sandra Husbands, Director of Public Health for Hackney
Two doses of the vaccine are needed for maximum protection against Covid-19, that is why I am urging all residents to make sure to attend their second dose appointment, which should be 8 weeks after the first.

We are working with the NHS to ensure that there are plenty of clinics locally either at pop-up venues in the community, or at your local pharmacy so people can easily access their second dose of the vaccine in Hackney.

The Delta variant is now the most common strain in London and  this has been shown to pass easily from person to person. Thankfully, we know that having both doses of the vaccine gives you the best possible protection against becoming seriously ill, even with this variant and will reduce transmission.
Dr Sandra Husbands, Director of Public Health for Hackney

Current guidance recommends that all people aged 18+ should have their second dose after 8 weeks. Walk-in clinics are now taking place across Hackney, so people can easily get their second vaccination without booking. You must have the same type of vaccination as your first. Two doses of the vaccine are required for maximum protection.
