Banging beats, colourful costumes and dancing will brighten up the borough as the Hackney One Carnival hits the streets on Sunday 13 September.

The Council-run event brings together hundreds of performers from carnival and community groups in celebration of the different cultures and creativity that thrive in the borough.Highlights include performances by Hackney’s best young musicians, an all-day children’s play area in Gillett Square and, after the procession, a carnival finale in Ridley Road, with Reggae and Dub music, plus food, and arts and crafts from around the world.

Kim Wright, Corporate Director of Health and Community Services, said: "Hackney One Carnival is a great way for residents to celebrate the diversity and creativity that thrives in our borough. Get the date in your diary, line streets and join the celebrations.”

Volunteers are wanted to help steward the procession, assist with registration and general administration.         There are also opportunities to get involved with carnival groups and help with tasks such as making costumes.
