Hackney Council wins two trophies at the National Apprenticeship Awards

National Apprenticeship Awards 2019

Hackney Council has won not one but two prizes at the regional heat of the National Apprenticeship Awards 2019. The Council will now go forward to the National Final in November.

Hackney is the first London Council to win gold in both the Large Employer of the Year and Recruitment Excellence in the London Region categories, beating a range of large private and public competitors.

The Council was awarded the Recruitment Excellence award based on outstanding achievement for employing a diverse range of apprentices to its successful apprenticeship programme.

The Hackney Apprenticeship scheme was launched in 2016 and has since hired 150 apprentices, many of whom have chosen to stay on and pursue a career with the Council.

Currently there are 113 apprentices working across the Council, who all represent different parts of the borough’s diverse demographic.

Cllr Carole Williams, Cabinet Member for Employment, Skills and Human Resources
Winning both these awards is a testament to our determination to provide a nurturing and successful apprenticeship programme, and I am delighted we have won as it continues to give the scheme the national recognition it deserves.

We have one of the most inclusive apprenticeship schemes in the country and I am truly proud that our apprentices have the skills, experience and qualifications to flourish in their roles and their careers thereafter.

The Council has also been shortlisted in the Guardian Public Service Awards in the Recruitment & HR category.
