Green light for refurbishment of park toilets

Facilities at two much-loved Hackney parks are set to be boosted with the refurbishment of on-site toilets.

Works to refurbish toilets in Haggerston Park and at the bowling pavilion in Clissold Park (as part of the wider Splash Pad project) will take place over the next year after Council spending of £225,000 was approved at Cabinet last week.

The refurbishments are part of a four-year programme of works, which started in 2019, that has previously seen improvements in Hackney Downs, Millfields Park, Clissold Park and London Fields, to transform green space facilities across the borough.

Cllr Caroline Woodley, Cabinet Member for Families, Early Years, Parks and Play
"Our fantastic parks in Hackney provide crucial green spaces for residents to use for leisure, relaxation and sports, all of which contribute to improved emotional and physical wellbeing.

“Despite our high population density, Hackney has a significant expanse of green space for an inner London borough and residents have told us that the high standards of our parks and open spaces are one of the top improvements that they have seen in the borough over the last five years.

“These upgraded facilities in Haggerston Park and Clissold Park will ensure they continue to be accessible, welcoming and pleasant green spaces for everyone living in the borough to enjoy."
Cllr Caroline Woodley, Cabinet Member for Families, Early Years, Parks and Play

The works are part of the Hackney Parks and Green Spaces Strategy 2021-31, which was also given the green light at Cabinet on Monday 24 May.
