Goodbye CORGI Gas Register – hello Gas Safe Register

HACKNEY residents are being urged to take note of a new gas safety standard to replace the CORGI scheme.

As of April 1, the Gas Safe Register will take the place of the well-known CORGI gas safety body and registration scheme.

This means that as of next month, by law, only Gas Safe registered engineers should carry out work on gas appliances or installations.

Always ask for the card - all Gas Safe registered engineers have
an ID card with their licence number and a photograph. The licence number is easily verified by phone or on the Gas Safe website.

Cllr Alan Laing, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “This is all about home safety – I strongly urge residents to check that a Gas Safe registered engineer is carrying out work in their homes. If not, you could be putting your family and your property at risk.”

If residents suspect an engineer is not registered, they should contact 0800 408 5500 or visit
