Hackney residents can now vote for their favourite place to eat or drink from a shortlist of 13 nominated Hackney businesses vying to scoop a Mayor of Hackney Business Award for 2016.

Voting opened this week for the Mayor of Hackney Business Awards ‘Best Place to Eat and Drink’ category for the ‘People’s Choice Award’ – a new addition to the awards line-up chosen entirely by residents.

Hackney people came forwards in November last year and nominated 35 local businesses, of which 13 were successfully shortlisted, for the ‘People’s Choice Award’ by selecting a plethora of restaurants, bars and cafes from all corners of Hackney.

With voting open now till 29 January, residents can visit the Mayor of Hackney Business Awards website and cast their vote for the people’s choice winner by selecting one of the following nominated businesses:

  1. Hoi Polloi – Shoreditch High Street
  2. The Clapton Hart – Lower Clapton Road
  3. Curio Cabal – Kingsland High Street
  4. The Diner – Kingsland Road
  5. Jackdaw and Star – Homerton High Street
  6. The Kenton – Kenton Road
  7. Ship of Adventures Café – Hackney Pirates, Kingsland High Street
  8. Sodo Pizza Café – Upper Clapton Road
  9. Tads – Mare Street
  10. Tangerina – Green Lanes
  11. Voodoo Rays – Kingsland High Street
  12. The Waterhouse Restaurant – Orsman Road
  13. Yellow Warbler – Northwold Road

The Mayor’s Business Awards help to showcase the extraordinary work of the local business community, rewarding those who contribute most to the life and prosperity of the borough’s economy.

The winners of all award categories, except for the people’s choice, will be selected by a panel of leading business figures and will be chaired by the Mayor of Hackney, Jules Pipe. The awards ceremony will take place next month.

The nominations put forwards by residents for the ‘Best Place to Eat or Drink’ category shows the tremendous variety of restaurants, cafés and bars in our borough, helping to make Hackney second-to-none across London as a cultural, leisure and night-time destination.

I want as many Hackney people to come forwards as possible and vote for their ‘Best Place to Eat or Drink’ from the shortlist of 13 fantastic businesses, helping to showcase their achievements and tell their stories. Votes count, so don’t delay and help choose the winner for the Hackney Business Award: People’s Choice 2016.
Jules Pipe, Mayor of Hackney

Hackney’s business community are also being encouraged to start nominating for the many other Mayor of Hackney Business Awards 2016 categories, such as the ‘Best Fairtrade Business Award’ which is another new category this year and marks the borough's renewal of its Fairtrade status.
