Free child car seat tests in July

Hackney Trading Standards, in partnership with the Road Safety Unit will be offering free child car seat tests in July. Experts will be on hand to offer in-car safety advice and answer any questions as well as check seats are correctly fitted at the drop-in testing days.

Pram safety advice will also be available at the sessions from 10am until 3pm at Tesco car park on 55 Morning Lane, E9 6ND on Friday 18 July and from 10am until 3pm at Morrisons car park, 47-49 Stamford Hill on Friday 25 July.

Cllr Alan Laing, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods said: “It’s absolutely vital that children’s car seats are fitted properly. Research carried out by Trading Standards found that on average, 8 out of 10 children’s car seats are fitted incorrectly.”

“Child seats can reduce the chances of a child being injured or even killed in a car accident but only of they’re fitted right. Parents and child carers should also be aware that they will face a £30 on the spot fine for not securing young children properly in cars. Or they could end up in court and face a fine of up to £500. I urge people to take advantage of this free service.”

For further information on the events or child car seat safety generally, please call the Trading Standards team on 0208 356 4929.
