End of term message to Primary and Secondary School students

Cllr Anntoinette Bramble, Deputy Mayor and Cabinet Member for Education, Young People and Children’s Social Care, Mayor of Hackney Philip Glanville and Director of Education Annie Gammon have written an end of term message to Primary and Secondary School students:

We write to thank you for your efforts during this academic year.

It has been a very challenging period for everyone with so much of our normal lives changed by the pandemic and the necessary restrictions to keep people safe. We also know that many families have lost loved ones due to the virus: our thoughts are with all of you.

Throughout the year we have been deeply impressed by your determination to keep learning: of course, in school, and we know that you are likely to have had periods at home needing to learn remotely. Thank you for your efforts during the whole year. Your families have been crucial to you during this time and we thank them for their support for you. We are also very proud of how you have been working through the pandemic, especially when you have not been able to go out and see your friends in the usual way.

We have written separately to thank the staff in schools and colleges and we hope you will thank them too, they have done so much to keep schools open and safe

As we look ahead we hope that you will have a less interrupted year ahead. We, and all your school and college staff, are intensely ambitious for your progress in the coming years.

Meanwhile we have the holiday period approaching and we wish you as good a time as possible over the coming weeks. There are a whole range of activities across Hackney available to you during the holiday.

There is also a wide range of activities for children and young people over the summer set up via the Holiday Activities and Food programme which can be found here. This is in addition to the Young Hackney activities and the playschemes. There are also some summer school sessions at some of our secondary schools which you will have been informed about if they affect you. All these settings have considered health and safety processes carefully.

To all of our Year 6 leavers we hope you have had a fantastic time in Primary School and wish you all the best for starting secondary school in September. We have been so pleased to see so many schools being able to celebrate this key moment.

Well done to everyone who completed exams over the summer term and we wish our Secondary School leavers the very best of in your future endeavours. You continue to make Hackney proud.

We wish you a safe and enjoyable summer.
