Cllr Susan Fajana-Thomas, Cabinet Member for Community Safety, offers a response from Hackney Council on the partially collapsed building on 70 Gloucester Drive:

“On the afternoon of Saturday 24 June a partial collapse occurred at 70 Gloucester Drive, a privately-owned building, in Finsbury Park, that was under redevelopment.

We immediately evacuated residents within and next door to a rest centre, while London Fire Brigade conducted a search of the site to ensure that no one had been trapped or was injured. Thankfully, I am pleased to report that no injuries or casualties occurred.

The Council is currently carrying out an assessment of the damage and is working with our contractor to put in place a plan to make the building safe. Meanwhile, the building is unlikely to be inhabitable for at least two weeks.

The 12 residents who have been displaced have been moved to emergency accommodation or are staying with friends or family, while alternative safe routes to their homes have been provided for residents of the nearby estates.

Further information is now available on our website. We will continue to provide emergency aid, information, guidance and support to those who have been affected.”
