Play streets galore for Car Free Day in Hackney

Over a dozen streets in Hackney will be transformed into Play Streets on Saturday 22 September as part of worldwide Car Free Day celebrations.

Play Streets, which have been around in Hackney since 2012, give children a chance to reclaim their streets from traffic and take part in fun and games.

This year's Car Free Day celebrations will see many of Hackney's established Play Streets simultaneously close their streets to traffic.

Hackney Play Association, who coordinate Play Streets in Hackney, are assisting residents to apply for, set up and run the play streets for Car Free Day, with the Council providing providing funding for special Car Free Day Play Packs, containing hula hoops, skipping rope and much more. Each street taking part in a Play Street on Car Free Day will receive a kit.
