Budding actors wanted for living history performance of Guardians of the Tower

Local people wanted for a living history theatre performance at St Augustine’s Tower on July 16.

Phantasmagoria Events is looking for budding actors to play a series of ghosts and local historical characters for a production of Guardians of the Tower, set to enthral with facts and stories, about Hackney’s past during a journey through time. The performance is best described as Back to the Future meets Horrible Histories!

The producers welcome anyone who wants to take part. Actors will be chosen through a Ghost Idol event where prospective local actors and budding ghosts aged over 16 are invited to audition for the show. Successful candidates will be invited to a series of evening rehearsals, and be guided by professional actors to perform to the public.

Auditions will take place at Hackney Museum on Wednesday 18 May, 6pm to 8pm. People are asked to come prepared with an audition monologue adapted from their favourite horror movie or adapted from a historical character, the more horrid the better.

Please email for an audition slot.

Hackney Council Cabinet Member for Community Services, Jonathan McShane said: “This is a really exciting opportunity for people to get involved in bringing Hackney’s history to life, at an amazing and eerie event in Hackney’s oldest building. Hackney has so many stories to tell so it’s important that we help keep the history of the area alive. The Council is committed to giving opportunities to get involved with cultural activities and this is a fantastic chance to take part in a professional production in an original and spooky setting.”

Rehearsals will take place on Wednesday evenings throughout June with two living history theatre performances at St Augustine’s Tower on Saturday July 16.

The event has been commissioned by the council run Hackney Museum and Hackney Historic Buildings Trust and made possible through a grant from Discover Hackney.

Community is a vital element in Phantasmagoria’s events whose policy is to help support ancient properties, local history, myths and community through ghostly and historical themed events.
