Broadway Market to reopen on 8 August using Covid-secure plan and Click it Local’s Broadway Virtual Market

Broadway Market will reopen on Saturday 8 August after being closed due to the COVID pandemic. Fifty traders will be setting up their stalls on the day and all will be working to Hackney’s 6-point Covid-secure trading plan so everyone can shop local and shop safe.

Broadway Market is the last of Hackney’s famous street markets to reopen. This is due to its unique characteristics; it attracts large crowds along a narrow, short road which also has lots of successful independent businesses along the street so shopping safely will be the order of the day.

From the Saturday 8 August, Broadway’s unique and independent designer fashion, homeware, gifts and fresh deli food produce will be available to buy. Safety measures upon reopening will include social distancing management with an empty stall between each trader, restrictions on selling hot food, encouragement to wear face masks and provided hand sanitiser. Everyone working in the market will be completing daily Fit To Work forms and cashless payments are being encouraged.

If you can’t make it to the Saturday market in person, thanks to a Hackney Council-led initiative to help traders through the lockdown and working with Click it Local, you can also shop online at the new Broadway Virtual Market which offers a local home delivery service or the option to collect purchases on the day from a click and collect area just outside of the market. “The Council and Traders have been working hard to reopen all of Hackney’s street markets making sure that we can all shop local and shop safe; it’s great to see that Broadway is now ready to go. As we all adjust to the COVID-19 ‘new normal’ Hackney is determined to support the local community reopen for business and do it safely. But it falls on all of us to be aware and remember to keep your distance, wear a face mask and make sure that we regularly clean our hands. If we all make sure we shop safe, then the sooner all our street markets can fully reopen”.
