Apply now to Hackney Council’s award winning apprenticeship scheme

Apprentices with award

Hackney Council is looking for more than 40 local people of all ages to join its award winning apprenticeship scheme this summer.

With the chance to earn up to £28k, the programme is designed to give people a chance to start their career or choose a new career path within different Council services.

This year, there are 21 digital apprenticeships in areas including project management, product development, data analysis, software development, digital support and cyber intrusion. No prior experience is required to apply for these apprenticeships, which allow candidates to combine work with training, meaning people can earn while gaining a nationally recognised qualification.

There are a further 22 apprenticeships available in areas including in business administration, carpentry, customer service, finance, gas engineering, management, markets, plumbing, surveying, and youth work.

The programme has been a great success with current and former apprentices with over 75 per cent choosing to stay with the Council either through permanent employment or a higher apprenticeship.

Cllr Carole Williams, Cabinet Member for Employment, Skills and Human Resources
Over the past few months, we have all had growing concerns about the impact of Coronavirus in our lives, the economy and communities around us. Launching the council’s apprentice recruitment campaign in the midst of the crisis is an important step to take to help Hackney residents aged 16 and over to give their careers a much needed boost.

I want to encourage as many people as possible to apply. The council’s multi-award-winning apprenticeship scheme is a great way to start your career, or start on a new employment path.

Hidayat Deen, ICT Delivery Manager Apprentice says: “I hope to progress to a Level 6 apprenticeship – which is the full degree. I’d like to remain within the council as I’d love to carry on serving the borough. I want to help improve it and what better way than with the council”.

The Council’s scheme was named Best School Leaver Programme in the Public Sector at the 2018 and 2019 School Leaver Awards, and won the Large Employer and Recruitment Excellence awards at the 2019 National Apprenticeship Awards for the London region.

To apply for a Council apprenticeship you must be over the age of 16 by September 2020 plus one of the following:

  • live in Hackney

  • attend a Hackney school, university, or other education institution

  • previously attended a Hackney secondary school

  • received or are receiving Hackney leaving care services.

The apprenticeships will start in the autumn, assessments and interviews will be in July and August, and this is likely to be done online.
