Apply now for insulation and heating grants

Residents who want to make their homes warmer and beat energy price hikes can now apply for grants towards insulation and new heating systems through Hackney Light and Power, Hackney Council’s energy services arm.

Its Green Homes programme has now reopened to people in privately-owned or rented properties who want to raise their property’s energy efficiency up to band C.

The programme was the first borough-wide initiative in London to offer thermal efficiency measures to people living in privately-owned and rented homes. Applicants must have a household income of below £32,000.

Since it began, the programme has received over 350 applications, with 66 households benefiting from new bill-busting energy efficiency improvements.

Now, a new pot of £200,000 is available for residents to apply for, and it’s expected that this will support a further 35 households to get the measures.

Grants of up to £10,000 are available for owner-occupied properties, and grants of up to £5,000 are available for privately rented households.

Cllr Mete Coban MBE, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport

With energy bills at their highest since records began, we want to support people to help make their homes warmer and reduce the borough’s impact on climate change.

Hackney Light and Power is a key part of our ambition to build a greener, healthier borough and is at the forefront of our work to install solar panels on Council buildings and create local green jobs.

Cllr Mete Coban MBE, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport

It was a super speedy process to get the work done. I didn’t even have to be here while the loft insulation was installed. I had been going through chemotherapy and was living off a very small income of Employment Support Allowance and the Personal Independence Payment and now I have a new heating system and loft insulation. Having this work done has helped immeasurably and taken away the financial and physical burden that arranging the installation would have caused me. It really took the pressure off.
