Keep on running and sign up for Hackney Marshes fun runs

Time is running out to sign up for one of the races at Hackney Marshes One2go sports festival. Anyone can take part in the races that run from 9.30am - 4.30pm and intergenerational teams are encouraged – so why not get Grandma, Grandad and Grand children together and join the race and run, walk or jog!

They include the One2Go Lee Valley Marathon and Race Series, Novice run & bike & run, 10k, 5k, 1k fun run. The Cabbies’ 5k Challenge and the Kids Olympic Rings Relay. In addition, there will be a 10k Relay Race, where inter-generational teams are encouraged.

In addition to the races, there is the Eid Cup 2011 football matches, Family Festival with local bands and singers; aerobics, Brazilian dance, cheerleading, massage; hula hooping, The Army inflatable paintballing range, non-contact boxing stalls with fitness measurement and children’s activities. There will also be guided walks starting from Hackney Town Hall to the Marshes and the opportunity for all participants to contribute to an Olympic skyline mural.

All participants will get a medal and a goody bag, and prizes will be presented by TV commentator, and former world champion duathlete, Annie Emmerson.

There will also be an opportunity to look round the new Hackney Marshes Centre at South Marsh; that opened in spring 2011. It provides 30 spacious changing rooms as well as educational and community facilities. A new café and terrace with views across the Marshes will open later in 2011.

Hackney Marshes is owned by Hackney Council and managed by social enterprise GLL (Greenwich leisure Ltd) and is open: Monday to Sunday, 8am-6pm.
