Young singers wanted for local talent contest

Are you the next big singing sensation? If you think you’ve got IT then Hackney Council is encouraging you to audition for an X Factor style talent show on 15 January 2011, at Hoxton Hall.

Discover Young Hackney are looking for 5 singers aged 13-19 to headline in the ‘I’m In’ talent contest on 4 February 2011, the official launch of Discover Young Hackney 2011 – the borough’s free youth arts and culture festival.

Auditions are open to Hackney residents aged 13-19 and you can perform as a solo artist or a group. If you want the chance to show that you’ve what it takes then you need to register by 08 January 2011. To audition, contact young producers Renell Shaw and Mekel Edwards on Shawandedwards@hotmail.co.uk by 8 January 2011.

Cllr Jonathan McShane, Hackney Council Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “Hackney is full of talented young people, and the ‘I’m In’ talent contest gives you an opportunity to get on stage and show an audience what you’ve got. It s also a great way to open the Council s Discover Young Hackney festival.”

Discover Young Hackney, now in it’s fifth year is a free festival which promotes participation and training in the arts for young people through a range of taster sessions and workshops run by creative professionals in music, dance, radio, art, literature, photography, design, singing, film and theatre. The festival also showcases some of the best of the borough’s cultural industries.
