Young people make art from their experience of the mental health service

My Expressions, a new exhibition at Hackney Museum, is the work of a group of young people admitted to the Coborn Centre for Adolescent Mental Health, which works with 12 -18 year olds who have mental health difficulties.

Pupils from the service worked with multimedia artist Beyonder and musician Prithpal for five weeks exploring ways that they could express themselves. The resulting works of art explore their journey to the Coborn and the stigma they felt on being admitted to a mental health unit.

Cllr Nargis Khan, Hackney’s Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “We hope that the exhibition will give people a sense of the journeys these young people have taken towards recovery.”

My Expressions is at Hackney Museum until 29 August 2009. The museum is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9.30am-5.30pm, Thursdays 9.30am-8pm and Saturday 10-5pm.
