Volunteers wanted to inspire next generation

Inspired young men learn about the tech industry

Enthusiastic male volunteers from all walks of life are needed to take part in an inspirational careers event aimed at the next generation of Hackney’s young men.

If you live, work, have attended school or have a life connection with Hackney, then you are eligible to apply. The ideal candidate will have an interesting career story to share with young people, from overcoming adversity, starting up a business, to working in the creative industries or any social care setting. If you have an inspirational story then apply now to become a volunteer.

At last year’s event, one young man, Ryan Boothe, from Stoke Newington School said: “I feel really inspired, this has actually helped me think about how I present myself and can be more confident in myself to achieve and do what I want to do in life.”

The event will see a young audience from schools across the borough listen to speeches and then take part in discussion groups to talk informally with all of the inspirational men involved.

This year’s event will take place on Tuesday 2 October at Young Hackney’s Forest Road Hub between 12-4pm. Volunteers will be asked to give valuable insights into their chosen career paths, talking about real life experiences, including the successes and failures that have helped them grow and achieve.

Cllr Anntoinette Bramble, Deputy Mayor of Hackney
Inspiring the next generation to achieve their dreams is the duty of us all. This is event provides a chance for our young people to learn about a wide variety of careers ranging from the fire service to health and social care, while giving them a chance to talk about the trials and tribulations of the world of work. It is also an opportunity to create a network of professionals that can work with the next generation to help them be the leaders of tomorrow. If you’re an entrepreneur, have an unusual job or simply love what you do I would encourage you to volunteer.”
Cllr Anntoinette Bramble, Deputy Mayor of Hackney
