Visit your library day

Perhaps it’s been awhile since you went to your local library.

If so, then Saturday 12 April is the perfect time to find out what’s on offer during Hackney Library Service’s Visit Your Library Day.

All Hackney libraries will be holding events throughout the day, including author visits and readings, information stalls, stock displays, craft and fun activities, competitions and tours.

A new membership scheme – the Words Unite membership card – will also be launched on the day. Free gifts will be given to all new members and those who introduce a new member.

Highlights include: Hilda Kean – historian and author of London Stories at Clapton Library, Alex Wheatle, novelist and author of Brixton Rock, Seven Sisters, Island Songs at Homerton Library, celebrated performance poet and author John Hegley at Hackney Central Library and Catherine Johnson, celebrated novelist and screenwriter and co-writer of award winning British film Bullet Boy at Stoke Newington Library.

Kim Wright, Hackney Council’s Corporate Director, Community Services said: “Our local libraries are a wonderful resource, providing various activities from reading groups and toy libraries, to computer training and help making hospital appointments. And of course, there is access to a great range of books, films and cds!”

The Visit your library day event is part of Hackney Council and The Learning Trust’s Get Hackney Reading campaign. To find out more about this and about Hackney Library Service, visit the Council website: www.hackney.gov.uk/cl-libraries.htm
