Thousands of youngsters enjoy free swimming in Hackney

This Easter break, young people around the borough took advantage of the free swimming available at the borough’s pools.

In April 2007, the Council introduced a scheme for Hackney’s under 18s to swim for free during school holidays.

Since then, around 9,500 children have joined up – giving more local young people access to the borough’s sports and leisure facilities.

Kim Wright, Hackney Council’s Corporate Director for Community Services said: “I’m pleased that thousands of local youngsters are benefiting from the Council’s offer – to give more young people the opportunity to socialise, have fun and keep fit.

“I would like to see more young people take advantage and join up for their free swims.”

Participating centres are Britannia Leisure Centre, N1, Kings Hall Leisure Centre, E5 and Clissold Leisure Centre, N16. The next opportunity to swim for free will the May half-term school holidays.

Hackney’s leisure centres are managed by Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL). For more information, visit your local leisure centre – details can be found on the Council website: www.hackney.gov.uk or the GLL website: www.gll.org
