The Cycle Sparkle competition

bikewithlights.jpg

Cyclists are invited to add to this year’s Hackney Christmas sparkle by decorating themselves and/or their bikes for a chance to win some fantastic prizes, including a child’s bike.

Don your brightest fancy-dress or festive outfit, or light up yourself and your bike, and come along to Hackney Town Hall Square for the borough’s official lights switch-on on Saturday, 29 November.

To register, simply show up at the marquee in the Square between 4pm and 4.45pm.

All entries must include a road-legal bicycle with a white light on the front and a red light at the back. Under-18s must have a parent or guardian with them.

The winners will be announced prior to the lights switch-on at 5.15pm.

Categories and prizes, courtesy of A&S Cycles, Chatsworth Road, and London Fields Cycles, Mare Street, below:

Brightest young star (for under-12s): win a bike courtesy of A&S Cycles
Sparkliest decorations: win a waterproof jacket courtesy of London Fields Cycles,
Most festive decorations and/or fancy-dress: win lights courtesy of A&S Cycles

Hackney Council is encouraging cyclists to keep riding through the winter but are reminded that they should ‘sparkle’ as much as possible in the darker months.

Cllr Feryal Demirci, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Hackney Council
Not only do we look forward to seeing the borough sparkle with Christmas lights, we also want to see our cyclists sparkling on the roads. Cycling is winter is still the quickest and most convenient way to get around the borough but cyclists must ensure they use lights during the hours of darkness – white lights at the front and red at the back.
