Don't miss out on cycling this summer!

Cycling is your ticket to summer; that’s the message from Hackney Council as it highlights a series of free pit stops, free cycle lessons and month-long bike loans to get people cycling over during the summer months.

The Council’s mobile mechanics will be visiting events around the borough, providing free bike checks and helping residents get their bike summer-ready.

Mechanics will be at Shoreditch Park at 1-4pm on Saturday 28 July, Stonebridge Gardens at 4-7pm on Wednesday 8 August, Mabley Green at 1-4pm on Saturday 18 August and at the Hidden River Festival on the New River Path at Woodberry Down on Saturday 15 September.

Free one-to-one and group cycle lessons, which are aimed at beginners and people who want to top up their cycling skills, are also taking place throughout the summer. People can choose a time and date that suits them or join scheduled cycle skills group training.

Residents new to cycling can also join the Council’s Try a Bike scheme, where they can borrow a bike, lights, panniers, helmet and lock for a month for just £10. The scheme is aimed at residents who want to start cycling, but want to see if they like it before committing to buy a bike. After the month is over, the scheme will help residents find a cheap bike to buy.

Cllr Feryal Demirci, Deputy Mayor
Summer is the perfect time to start cycling, and with our free pit stops and cycle lessons, as well as our fantastic Try a Bike offer, we hope that we can encourage even more people to out exploring Hackney by bike.
